I started shooting in 1968 and have been involved in the sport for most of the intervening years. I had successful junior and senior careers at county, regional and national level. In 1975 I shot in the first ever Junior International, which was held in this country and throughout the 70s I shot in competitions all around Europe gaining invaluable experience – and I am still shooting today.
Over the past few years I have become more involved in coaching and have taken my coach education upwards, qualifying as county coach in 2015. I was also enrolled on the Archery GB Talent Coach Development programme at that time and was part of the team working with the archers on the National Talent Development programme for recurve archers under 20. I also worked more intensively with the Northern Academy at Bishop Burton, supporting the development and understanding of the Strength & Conditioning programme and assisting with the coaching activities.
I have have developed a junior coaching programme at my club, which currently has regular attendance from around 12 young archers; I also work as part of the coaching team at the Yorkshire Youth Squad which meets over the winter months in York.
